Orbit Viewer
This tool shows approximate orbits of the planets and major planetary satellites. Optionally, one or more user-selected small body (asteroids and comets) orbit may also be shown.
- For help using this tool, select the
Help
item under the menu icon (below). - To display planetary satellites of a specific planet, select the
Settings
item under the menu icon (below), then select theMoons
checkbox for the planet(s) of interest. - To display a known small-body orbit, select the
Add Object
item under the menu icon (below).
For accurate ephemerides, please instead use our Horizons system. This orbit viewer was implemented using two-body methods, and hence should not be used for determining accurate long-term trajectories (over several years or decades) or planetary encounter circumstances.
Object labels not visible? Increase the font size using the orbit viewer's menu icon to get to "Settings", then "Label Font Size".
