9133 d´Arrest | Discovered 1960 Sept. 25 by C. J. van Houten and I. van Houten-Groeneveld on Palomar Schmidt plates taken by T. Gehrels. |
Named in memory of Heinrich Louis d´Arrest (1822-1875), German astronomer. As an assistant astronomer at the Berlin Observatory, he, together with J. G. Galle, discovered the planet Neptune in 1846. From 1852 d´Arrest served as an astronomer at the Leipzig Observatory and was appointed professor of astronomy. In 1857 he went to Denmark as director of the Copenhagen Observatory, where he discovered (76) Freia. He detected several comets, among them a famous short-period comet, and he was a prolific observer of minor planets and nebulae. |
