6446 Lomberg           Discovered 1990 Aug. 18 by E. F. Helin at Palomar.
Named in honor of Jon Lomberg (b. 1948), graphic arts virtuoso, who has excelled in his renditions of space and astronomical subjects. One of the world's leading astronomical artists, he worked with Carl Sagan and on many television documentaries about space science, including the Cosmos series. He was also the design director for the Voyager Interstellar Record. His works can be found in museums and science centers all over the world. His technical research, artistic interpretation and precision in the planning of each painting is characteristic of this dedicated, accomplished artist in portraying space as it is, to the extent we know it.
