Hannover, the capital city of the German federal state of Niedersachsen, is the birthplace of the astronomers Caroline Herschel and her brother Friedrich Wilhelm, the discoverer of Planet Uranus. The Volkssternwarte Geschwister Herschel Hannover is heavily involved in astronomical public education.
