27789 Astrakhan           Discovered 1993 Jan. 23 by E. W. Elst at the European Southern Observatory.
The Astrakhan Khanate, a Tatar feudal state, was established around 1460, after the collapse of the Golden Horde. Its territory included the lower Volga valley, the Volga delta and the steppeland on the right bank of the Volga river.
