17945 Hawass           Discovered 1999 May 14 by J. Broughton at Reedy Creek Observatory.
Egyptian archeologist Zahi A. Hawass (b. 1947) showed unfailing dedication in the battle of preserving Egypt's monuments and antiquities. He has also been involved in many important discoveries such as the pyramid builder's necropolis at Giza and golden mummies of El Bahariya Oasis.
