Agrigento, the old Greek city Akragas, was founded by the Greeks in 582 B.C. One of the leading cities of the Mediterranean world, it demonstrates still its pride by preserving the remains of several Doric temples. In 490 B.C. the great philosopher Empedocles was born there. |
