12973 Melanthios           Discovered 1973 Sept. 19 by C. J. van Houten and I. van Houten-Groeneveld on Palomar Schmidt plates taken by T. Gehrels.
Melanthios was a goat herder of Odysseus. He mocked Odysseus when the latter came to Eumaios disguised as a beggar. Later Odysseus killed him.
