10448 Schawlow           Discovered 1977 Oct. 16 by C. J. van Houten and I. van Houten-Groeneveld on Palomar Schmidt plates taken by T. Gehrels.
Arthur L. Schawlow (1921-1999), American physicist, shared part of the 1981 Nobel Prize for physics with Nicolaas Bloembergen for contributions to the development of laser spectroscopy. The name was suggested by W. A. Fröger.
