Hannah Arendt (1906-1975) was a major political thinker and philosopher known for her extensive critical writing on Jewish affairs and her study of totalitarianism (On Revolution, Men in Dark Times, On Violence). In 1933, she emigrated from Germany to France, in 1941 to the U.S.
