9489 Tanemahuta           Discovered 1971 Mar. 25 by C. J. van Houten and I. van Houten-Groeneveld on Palomar Schmidt plates taken by T. Gehrels.
Named for the god of the forests of the Maori people in New Zealand and for the great kauri tree in the Waipoua forest that also bears this name.
