11537 Guericke           Discovered 1992 Apr. 29 by F. Borngen at Tautenburg.
German physicist Otto von Guericke (1602-1686) studied in Jena and was mayor of Magdeburg. He invented the air pump and centrifuge, perceiving the substantial nature of air and determining its weight. His demonstration of the atmospheric pressure by means of the Magdeburg hemispheres is well known.
