API VERSION: 1.2 API SOURCE: NASA/JPL Horizons API ******************************************************************************* Revised: Jun 01, 2023 OSIRIS-REx Spacecraft Sample Return Capsule -64090 http://www.asteroidmission.org https://directory.eoportal.org/web/eoportal/satellite-missions/o/osiris-rex http://www.nasa.gov/sites/default/files/atoms/files/osiris-rex_press_kit_0.pdf NOTE: 2023-Sep-18 The OSIRIS-REx project indicates this trajectory remains accurate within atmospheric/weather/wind uncertainties. BACKGROUND Launched Sep 08, 2016 the primary mission goal was to collect and return material from the surface of asteroid 101955 Bennu. The OSIRIS-REx sampler arm successfully touched-down on Bennu on 20 October 2020 @ 22:13 UTC. Imaging confirmed that the sampler had made contact within 92 cm of the target location. Asteroid material weighing more than 60 grams was collected and stored in the Sample Return Capsule (SRC) for return to Earth. The SRC will separate from the main spacecraft at 10:42 UTC on 2023-Sep-24 and parachute back to Earth, landing at the Air Force Utah Test and Training Range at ~14:44 UTC the same day. The main spacecraft (-64), having approached Earth's center to within 7152.1 km moments later at 14:45 UTC, will be retasked as OSIRIS-APEX and sent on to rendevous with asteroid Apophis in 2029. SPACECRAFT TRAJECTORY: This predicted trajectory is for the Sample Return Capsule (ID= -64090). To obtain ephemerides of SRC with respect to the main spacecraft, set the target as '-64090' and observing center as '@ -64'.
