API VERSION: 1.2 API SOURCE: NASA/JPL Horizons API ******************************************************************************* Revised: Jul 14, 2025 GALEX Space Telescope -127783 http://www.galex.caltech.edu/index.html NOTE: GALEX was decommissioned September 30, 2011 and is no longer active. BACKGROUND: Launched: April 28, 2003 8 a.m. (EDT) [Pegasus rocket] The GALEX mission is a partnership between the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) with universities, science institutes, laboratories, and commercial technology providers from around the world. Caltech hosts the GALEX science center and has overall responsibility for the project. JPL constructed the GALEX science instrument, performed calibration, and is responsible for project management. Leading the GALEX project is the principal investigator, professor Chris Martin, of Caltech. GALEX SPACE TELESCOPE: Galaxy Evolution Explorer: Earth orbiting space telescope observing galaxies in ultraviolet wavelengths to investigate the causes and evolution of star formation over the history of the universe. With an original 29-month mission complete, mission was extended in 2006. PHYSICAL DATA: Length : 2 m (6.5 feet) Weight : 280 kg (617 lbs) Width (solar panels unfurled): 2.8 m (9 ft) Width (launch configuration) : 1.1 m (3.7 ft) Battery lifetime (projected): 12 years Orbit stability : 25 years (post-launch) DATA RELEASE: http://galex.stsci.edu/GR4/ SPACECRAFT TRAJECTORY: The trajectory here is a concatenation of publicly released JSpOC two-line elements. These can usually only be propagated reliably "days" into the future, so have to be updated fairly frequently to maintain accuracy. ******************************************************************************* No ephemeris for target "GALEX (spacecraft)" after A.D. 2025-JUL-14 10:44:35.0817 UT
