8461 Sammiepung           Discovered 1981 Mar. 2 by S. J. Bus at Siding Spring in the course of the U.K. Schmidt-Caltech Asteroid Survey.
Sammie J. Pung (b. 1958) is a mechanical technician for the NASA Infrared Telescope Facility on Mauna Kea, Hawaii. As part of the IRTF summit day crew since 1982, he has worked to ensure that the telescope, dome and supporting mechanical systems are maintained and operational.
