Peruvian astronomer Víctor Antolí Estremadoyro Robles (1913-2003), professor of astronomy and a structural engineer, founded the Peruvian Association of Astronomy (1946) and the Iberoamerican League of Astronomy in 1958. The latter association unites institutions in 26 different countries.
