13039 Awashima           Discovered 1990 Mar. 27 by K. Endate and K. Watanabe at Kitami.
Awasima is a small island, 20 km in circumference, in Niigata prefecture, in the Sea of Japan. The island hosts a population of about 400. Its key industries are fishing and tourism. The inhabitants have inherited from their predecessors a traditional culture, rich in local color.
